Kesnel Franklin
1945 - 1978
Here is an interesting slant on this nude painting by Franklin. The girl is
in a hunfort, where the houngan (witch) bathes people to
cure them of an illness. The bag is a jacout of African origin used by a
spirit called Mr. Zacha, the god of labor. He blesses the workers,
gives energy, baths, etc. The cure is called bano de suerte (Spanish) or
bath of good luck. The houngan's accessories with the bag include a sombrero
and machete, hat and hatchet and imbibes rum with cinnamon.
