Celestin Faustin
Born in 1948 in Lafond, Haiti, Celestin Faustin began work as an apprentice to Wilmino Domond when he was 19 years old.  His early simpler works show Domond's influence but later his own style emerges as the paintings become more complex.  Faustin was both fascinated and repulsed by the religious beliefs of his grandmother, Celestina, and his ancestors who practiced vodoun. This ambivalence is evident in his work. Faustin died in 1981.
