Gervais Emmanuel Ducasse

Gervais Emmanuel Ducasse was born in 1903 in Port-au-Prince. After a good formal education and a job as an agricultural agent with the government, Ducasse turned to painting after losing his job in 1948 due to lack of funding. Painting had been an interest of his since childhood. His work can be found in the permanent collections of the Musée d’Art Haitien and the Milwaukee Museum of Art, and has been published in Haitian art books. This heart catching rendition in the essence of naïve art, old man Emmanuel Ducasse sold this market scene to me in his home at the age of 78. He died in 1984.
